Slow internet?

Wi-Fi for better or worse.

Wi-Fi is convenient, but it's not the same as stable or universal coverage.

For example, if you have a 50/50 mbps internet connection, only at the router will you have this speed if you use cable.

If you use Wi-Fi, the 50/50 quickly drops to around 20/12.

If you move away from the room where the router is located, e.g. onto the terrace or into/upstairs/downstairs in a room, perhaps even with several rooms between you and the router, your speed may have dropped a lot more.

Many have seen the advert from one of the well-known ISPs, where some boys are playing online. You can clearly hear one of them shouting "no, no, it's lagging". The word "lagging" is a description of the game stopping or freezing. This is due to a lack of internet, which often happens via Wi-Fi.

When you use Drive4you's tests, it's not like when you normally surf the internet and check Facebook, Twitter or watch YouTube.
A sample contains images, text and audio files. The audio files even have to be played at specific intervals of a second, which is not the case for the text files.

If you find that a theory test stops during the test, it's a sign that your internet is not keeping up. To ensure a smooth test, your download speed should be 20 mbps or above. If it's below, you may experience problems.

You can click "Help" in the menu when you are logged in and take an internet speed test. Remember the download speed must be 20 mbps or more.

If you have a slower speed, you can do the following:
Switch off the Wi-Fi on your mobile phone or tablet and access the internet as if you were out and about. Then use teledata, which is typically 4G, which in many cases is faster than 20 mbps. If you use a computer with Wi-Fi and you don't have the option of connecting a LAN cable, you can use your mobile's hotspot function and use it to access 4G via your phone.

Last but not least. Many people have an antivirus programme, which is good, but an antivirus programme often installs a plugin in your browser called Web Security. It can also just be part of the antivirus programme itself. This feature scans all images, all audio files, all videos and all websites as you browse. This is fine, but when you're running tests with images, films and audio, this can be very slow. Either switch off the feature while taking tests or go to your antivirus settings and ask Web Security not to scan this domain https://undervisning.drive4you.dk, as this is a secure domain. You will get a noticeable boost in speed.
